What "Continuous" Actually Means

One living city. No rounds. No timed wipes.

ChicagoShadows runs on continuous time. Your territory, your treasury, and your reputation persist from the moment you arrive — and keep moving on a real clock while you sleep.

⏱️

The Clock Never Stops

Energy and health regenerate, rackets pay out, and the world advances on a real-time tick — not a weekly turn. Log off Friday, come back Sunday, and the city moved without you. That's the point.

🏙️

Your Empire Persists

No weekly wipe. Every block you take, every alliance you sign, every enemy you make stays on the map. A city runs on until one boss takes the crown — and new cities are always opening, so there's a fresh Chicago whenever you want one.

Your Pace, Your City

Different cities run on different in-game clocks — some fast and furious, some slow and deliberate. You choose the experience you want: a weekend blitz or a weeks-long campaign. Money still flows in real time, faucets and sinks balanced so the streets stay worth fighting over.

If You've Played Round-Based Crime Games

This is the part they kept resetting on you.

The Old Way — Rounds

  • Everything wipes on a fixed schedule, win or lose
  • Miss the start, miss the game
  • Empires are temporary by design
  • One pace, take it or leave it
  • Your rivalries die with the clock

ChicagoShadows — Continuous

  • Nothing wipes on a timer — a city ends only when a boss wins
  • Jump in any time — new cities open all the time
  • Empires are legacies you defend for real
  • Pick your speed — fast blitz or slow campaign
  • Grudges, debts, and alliances outlive the night
Inside the City

Run the streets of a city that remembers.

Everything you see is the live game — not a mockup.

The Map

A hand-drawn Chicago, block by block

Scan a top-down strategic map of 1920s Chicago, block by block. Click any building to scout its owner, value, and stock. Territory lights up in your family's color as your empire grows — and stays lit until someone takes it from you.

  • Live ownership and turf, persistent across sessions
  • Per-building Heat, Fear & Respect gauges
  • Robbery targets and patrols marked right on the streets
Crew management
Your Family

Build crews. Promote Capos. Earn loyalty.

Drag-and-drop gangsters into squads led by your Capos. Filter by muscle, brains, or stealth to field the right crew for the job. Keep them paid and loyal — because in a world with no weekly reset, a betrayal you cause today is a war you fight next week.

  • Multiple crews, persistent rosters
  • Loadouts from the Locker change real stats
  • Loyalty and salary demands you negotiate live
Conflict resolution in the Herald
Conflict

Wars play out, then hit the front page

When crews clash, the city reacts in real time — and the Herald breaks down every blow: who attacked, who defended, which racket was at stake, and who walked away on top. Diplomacy happens on the street, in the moment — peace, neutral, or war is a choice you make and live with.

  • Real-time engagements between live crews
  • City Desk verdicts on every fight
  • Standing diplomacy that persists between bosses
The Chicago Herald newspaper
The Shared Story

The whole city reads the same newspaper

The Chicago Herald is the city's shared memory — gang wars, power shifts, milestones, and the week's Most Wanted, all in one front page everybody sees. It's how you find out who's rising, who's bleeding, and who's coming for you next.

  • Live ambient headlines as the world moves
  • Milestone splashes — cities taken, fortunes made
  • The Most Wanted list nobody wants to top
A gangster's locker with equipped gear and a stash of items
The Locker

Kit out your crew from the stash

Every weapon, hat, watch and charm you pull off a body or buy off the street lands in the stash. Equip it on the gangster who needs it — each piece bends the stats that decide who walks away from the next fight.

  • Drag gear onto any gangster, slot by slot
  • Rarity tiers from common to mythic, each with its own edge
  • Fire a man and his gear comes right back to the stash
A newspaper conflict report — headline, summary and stats from a street fight
The Front Page

Every fight makes the morning paper

When crews clash, the city desk writes it up — a 1920s newspaper with the headline, who-shot-who, the body count, and a plain-language read on what actually went down. Share the link and let the whole city read it.

  • Headline, masthead and a Lore / Facts toggle
  • The blow-by-blow account, capped to the moments that mattered
  • Shareable token link — brag, or warn

Before You Ask

Straight answers, no runaround.

Will I fall hopelessly behind if I join late?
No. The city's always mid-game — but it's built for new arrivals. You start with your own turf and crew, the map is full of unclaimed and weakly-held rackets to take, and reputation is earned by playing smart, not by who showed up first. Veterans have history; you have fresh ambition and nothing to lose.
Is it pay-to-win?
No. ChicagoShadows is free to play, and the game is decided on the streets — strategy, timing, and the alliances you build. You can't buy your way past a smarter boss.
How much time does it demand?
As little or as much as you like. Because the world runs on a real clock, you can check in for five minutes to give orders and let your crew work — or sink into a long session plotting a war. Energy and income tick on their own; you don't have to babysit it.
Do I need to download or install anything?
Nothing. It runs in your browser. Make an account and you're in the city in seconds — or take a look around a live city first, no signup needed.
What happens to my empire when I log off?
It keeps going. There's no timer wiping the board — your territory, treasury, and reputation persist, and the world moves on while you're away. It's one continuous, living Chicago, not a round that wipes every week. A city ends only when one boss wins it (see below).
So how does a city ever end?
A city runs continuously until one mafia boss comes out on top — the last family standing wins, and that city closes as a chapter of Chicago history with a crowned victor. There's no clock counting down to a reset; a city ends only when someone earns the win. And you're never waiting on it: new cities are opening all the time, so there's always a fresh Chicago to walk into and a near-conclusion one to fight for the crown in.
Are all cities the same speed?
No — and that's the point. Different cities run on different in-game clocks. Some move fast, where days pass in hours and an empire rises and falls in a weekend; others run slow and deliberate, a long campaign you grind out over weeks. It's up to you what kind of experience you want — pick a city whose pace matches how you like to play, or run a crew in more than one at once.

Chicago is waiting.

The clock is already running. Every block you don't take, someone else does.
